Ruth
Thornton
Oct 7, 1937 — Jan 1, 2026
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Ruth Imogene Thornton, a beacon of love and strength to all who knew her. Ruth, born on October 7, 1937, in Pacific, MO, USA, graced the world with her presence for 88 fulfilling years before her peaceful departure on January 1, 2026. As Maya Angelou so eloquently stated, "My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style." This quote fittingly encapsulates Ruth's vivacious spirit and the indomitable zest for life she exhibited throughout her journey.
While Ruth never sought formal employment, she was a full-time nurturer, a job she performed with unmatchable dedication and an open heart. Her residence in Englewood, Colorado was not merely a house, but a home filled with warmth, laughter, and countless memories for over two decades. Divorced, yet never alone, she was the cornerstone of her family, the heart that kept everyone together. Her life was a living testament to the words of Albert Schweitzer, "The only ones among you who will be really happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve."
Ruth's legacy will continue to be celebrated by her loving daughter Joya Wagnitz, son-in-law Glen Wagnitz, and a host of family members including Bonni, Terry, Ray, Pam, Karen, Craig, Crissy, Dennis, and her daughter Raylene. She was the matriarch who loved unconditionally, the guiding light that led everyone home. She now joins her parents, William and Mary Elizabeth Thornton, in eternal peace.
Ruth's life was a tapestry of delightful stories, shared wisdom, and unconditional love, which will continue to warm the hearts of those she touched. We encourage all who knew and loved Ruth to honor her memory by sharing their stories, photos, and cherished moments on her memorial page. Let us remember not just that Ruth died, but that she lived, and that her life gave us memories too beautiful to forget.
