Richard
Orr
May 8, 1947 — Oct 28, 2024
Richard Allan Orr, known affectionately as Dick to his family and friends, passed away on October 28, 2024, aged 77 years. Born on May 8, 1947, in Ocala, Florida, Dick was a beacon of compassion, humility, love, and thoughtfulness. His life was a brilliant tapestry woven with threads of dedication towards his family, his work, and his passions.
Dick spent the majority of his career as a Hydrologic Technician with the U.S. Geological Survey Water Resources, a job that reflected his thoughtful nature and commitment to the environment. His dedication to his work was renowned, but his true passion lay in his hobbies - fly fishing and hunting. He was not only an avid outdoorsman but an expert fly-tier, intertwining his love for nature and his immense patience. Dick's service as Staff Sargent in the Army 173rd Airborne earning three bronze stars for valor during the Vietnam conflict was a testament to his courage. He carried the humility he learned in the military throughout his life, influencing everyone who crossed his path.
Dick's life was rich in love and friendship. He will be forever cherished by his loving wife, Cheryl Orr; his son, Adam Orr and daughter-in-law Melissa; his sister, Wendy Staley and brother-in-law Roger; his brother, Bill Orr and sister-in-law Marty; and his sister, Shelley Orr. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Betty Orr. The bond Dick shared with his family and the love he held for his friends was unparalleled. His compassionate and humble nature made him not just an extraordinary man, but an extraordinary husband, father, brother, and friend.
In remembering Dick, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, service, and genuine connection. We encourage everyone who knew him to share their memories and photos on the memorial page. The stories, laughter, and love shared in these memories will help us all remember the remarkable man that was Richard 'Dick' Orr.
