Obituary

Nancy Louise Martin, our beloved mother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 10th, 2024, surrounded by her children, and grandson.

Her life was a tapestry woven with threads of adventure, compassion, and an unwavering spirit.

Born on August 1st, 1946, in Cleveland, TX, to Bryce B Martin and Modena Dean Martin. Nancy's childhood years were filled with the warmth of family and the promise of endless possibilities. She graduated from high school in Hot Springs, Arkansas, sharing this milestone with her classmate and friend that would go on to become the President of the United States, Bill Clinton.

Nancy gave birth to her daughter, Kristanne, in Conroe, TX in 1968. Her adventurous spirit led her and her daughter to Alaska to join her brothers, Jack and Skip Martin, where she embraced the rugged beauty of the wilderness and welcomed her second child, Chad Wesley, into the world.

In the mid 80s, Nancy relocated to Reno, NV where she followed her passion for helping others, earning her bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's in Social Work. Her dedication to making a difference culminated in the founding of Project Restart in Reno, NV, a homeless shelter that helped disadvantaged, homeless, and mentally ill individuals rebuild their lives—a testament to her compassionate heart and desire to uplift others.

Throughout her life, Nancy was a beacon of positivity and inspiration. Her infectious laugh, warm smile, and unwavering support touched the lives of countless individuals. She was known for her adventurous spirit, her incredible cooking, her voracious love of books, and her elegance—"Fancy Nancy," always dressed to the nines, exuding class wherever she went. Her creativity knew no bounds, whether she was sewing, painting, playing music, or diving into the ocean depths. She truly was a woman of many talents—a seamstress, caretaker, musician, water skier, sailor, and, most importantly, a loving mother, and Nana.

Nancy's love story with George Nippell was a testament to the enduring power of companionship and shared adventures. For a time they lived on a sailboat called Island Eclipse in the Chesapeake Bay where they shared the boat life with many friends. After moving to Florida they continued their adventures touring North America in their RV from Florida to Alaska and all points in between, creating memories that will forever be cherished.

Diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) in 2016, Nancy faced her illness with the same strength, positivity, and courage that defined her entire life. Even in her final years she remained an inspiration to all who knew her.

Nancy is survived by her devoted husband, George Nippell, her children Kristanne and Chad, their partners John and Alli, her grandchildren Zach and Kiera, and her siblings Jack, Judy, and Skip Martin. She also leaves behind her niece Kelly, nephew's David, John, Eric and Jeff.

Nancy's life was a testament to the beauty of living with an open heart, a curious mind, and an unshakable belief in the power of kindness. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, adventure, and inspiration will forever be a source of inspiration for those who had the privilege of knowing her.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
