Matthew
Sudowski
Aug 8, 1984 — Dec 11, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Matthew Ryan Sudowski on December 11, 2024. Matt's journey through life was marked by profound love, a deep desire to help others, and immense courage in facing his own battles with mental health and addiction.
Born on August 8, 1984, Matt grew up with a bright spirit and a contagious laugh. When he was doing well, he was full of joy and light, bringing kindness and laughter to all who knew him. He had an unwavering passion for helping others overcome their own struggles, a calling that guided much of his life.
Matt's journey with mental health challenges and addiction began in his early teens. Over the years, he sought innovative ways to manage these struggles, including embracing non-traditional treatments such as plant-based medicines. This passion became a driving force in his life. After experiencing the benefits of ketamine therapy, iboga, and other plant-based medicines, Matt dedicated himself to sharing these tools with others.
In 2023, Matt moved to Costa Rica to pursue his dream of opening an ibogaine retreat center, offering hope and healing to those grappling with opioid addiction. He also traveled to Gabon, Africa, where he was initiated into the Bwiti religion, a transformative experience that deepened his connection to the healing practices he so strongly believed in.
Despite his many successes, Matt faced ongoing challenges, including physical injuries and relapses. Tragically, after a recent plant-based medicine ceremony, Matt suffered a cardiac arrest. Although he was resuscitated, the lack of oxygen resulted in irreversible brain damage. He was declared legally brain-dead on December 11, 2024.
Matt's legacy of compassion lives on through his final act of generosity. His heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys were donated, saving the lives of five people.
Matt shared a deep and enduring love with Corinna Lander, to whom he was engaged for several years. Although their paths diverged when Matt moved to Costa Rica, he passed knowing that Corinna was the love of his life. Together, they shared a beautiful connection and their beloved dog, Felix, who brought them both great joy. Both Corinna and Felix survive Matt.
He is also survived by his brothers, Jay Sudowski and Aaron Sudowski; sister-in-law, Linda Sudowski; his beloved son, Zachary Grant; daughter, Eralyn Sudowski; and stepmother, Bonnie Sudowski. He is reunited in peace with his mother, Sandra Sudowski; father, Leon Sudowski; and sister, Maria Sudowski.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Raise the Future, a nonprofit organization that has been instrumental in supporting Matt's daughter, Eralyn.
Matt's family and friends will remember him as a kind, vibrant soul who worked tirelessly to find peace and to bring it to others. His strength and love will never be forgotten.
