Obituary

Mary Helen Kovalik, known to all as Mary, was born in Yonkers, NY, on March 18, 1967, and passed away on June 6, 2024. A courageous, smart, and resilient woman, Mary was renowned for her reliability and her unflagging spirit. As Helen Keller once said, "Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experiences of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved." Mary's life was a testament to this profound truth.

Mary was a paralegal by profession, working diligently in the field of law. Her intelligence and tenacity shone brightly in her work, and she was respected by all who knew her. She spent the last 23 years in Littleton, Colorado, after living in Yonkers, New York and Lone Tree, Colorado. A lover of video games, books, and concerts, Mary also found joy in diamond art and spending quality time with her beloved dog, Ryo. She was the backbone of her community and served as the President of the HOA, always ensuring the needs of her neighbours were met.

What mattered most to Mary was her fierce independence and the freedom to live life on her own terms. She believed in doing what was right, even when it was not easy. She is survived by her daughter, Jessica Kovalik, and son-in-law, John Delcupp. Her siblings, Regina Fortuniewicz, John Fortuniewicz, Elizabeth Macur, Richard Fortuniewicz, Paul Fortuniewicz, Christopher Fortuniewicz, and their spouses, Michael Figueroa, Debbie Fortuniewicz, and Linda Fortuniewicz, also mourn her loss. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Sophie and Stanislaw Fortuniewicz, and her brothers, Stanley II and George Fortuniewicz, and Matthew Fortuniewicz.

As we remember Mary, we are reminded of her strength and determination, her quick wit, and her generosity of spirit. She was a beacon of resilience and courage, and her legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her. As we bid farewell to Mary, we reflect on her life, a journey marked by courage, resilience, smartness, and reliability.
