Obituary

It is with a twinkle in the eye and a hearty chuckle that we celebrate the life of the incomparable Marian Elizabeth Chavie, born January 13, 1977, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. A woman of bright spirit and boundless resilience, Marian left us on January 4, 2026. Much like the Volkswagen bug she loved to take on road trips, she was compact yet full of character; unmistakable, unforgettable, and always ready with a perfectly timed quip. Her gift for sharp, sarcastic commentary was legendary, and though she was never married, she poured endless affection into her beloved cat, Shirley.

Marian's curiosity about the world guided her early path. She earned her bachelor's degree in Anthropology from Colgate University, a field that fed her fascination with culture, history, and human stories. She later continued her academic journey, completing her master's degree at Denver University, deepening the thoughtful, inquisitive nature that shaped so much of her life.

That same spark carried into the simple joys she cherished. Whether she was crafting holiday decorations, baking treats for the people she loved, or diving deep into Native American history, Marian approached everything with curiosity, creativity, and a contagious sense of humor. Friends could always count on her for a Grumpy Cat text or a Simpsons meme delivered at exactly the right moment; her way of reminding everyone not to take life too seriously.

Her warmth and wit followed her into her professional life as well. Marian was a shining star in the finance industry, handling Research and Adjustments at OppenheimerFunds, Empower Financial, and Zion's Bank with the finesse of a seasoned diplomat. Clients may not always have been right, but Marian had a remarkable ability to make them feel like they were; offering a smile, a jovial laugh, and perhaps an eye-roll saved for after the call. Her colleagues knew her as someone who could lighten even the most chaotic day. Through all of this, Marian faced years of health challenges with a quiet grit that inspired everyone around her. Even on the hardest days, she held tight to her humor, her curiosity, and her stubborn streak; the same qualities that shaped her entire life. When her journey finally came to a close, she slipped away peacefully with Shirley curled beside her, a small, steady comfort who never left her side. Her resilience was a lesson to us all, a testament to her spirit and her zest for life.

A lifelong Colorado resident, Marian brightened the lives of her friends, coworkers, and community with her sparkling wit and generous heart. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Michael and Yong Chavie, whose strength and spirit clearly lived on in her. Though we feel the ache of her absence, we carry her laughter, her resilience, and her unmistakable spark with us. As Dr. Seuss reminds us, "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." Marian would be the first to insist we do exactly that — to remember the joy, the jokes, and the small, shining moments she scattered through our lives like confetti.

Let us honor Marian's memory by sharing our favorite stories, photos, and moments. Please leave your memories and upload photos to the memorial page so we can keep the spirit of Marian Chavie alive through the joy, humor, and love she brought into our lives.
