In Loving Memory of Gretchen Storer Evans
Gretchen Storer Evans, born on December 29th, 1929, passed away on October 25th, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of grace, talent, and unwavering dedication. She was the beloved daughter of Richard Milton Storer and Helen Natalie Rohrs Storer and the sister of Natalie Morris (deceased) and Reyna Rohrs. In 1958, Gretchen married her true love, John Robert Evans, and together they shared a journey of love and companionship until his death in 1973.
Gretchen's love and care extended to her children, Ann Allison Evans Watson, Lisa Natalie Evans-Smith, and the late Scott Storer Evans, whose memory she cherished and kept alive. She was also a proud and doting grandmother to Evan Joseph Zavada, MacKenzie Malhotra Evans, and Brendan John Evans, who brought immense joy and laughter into her life.
Gretchen's journey through life was a testament to her passion for education and the arts. She majored in music at Middlebury College and later became a dedicated Spanish and English teacher at the Kent School for Girls, where her nurturing spirit and strong values touched the lives of many. Her commitment to proper manners, etiquette, and kindness made her a role model for generations.
Gretchen's talents knew no bounds; she was a competitive ice skater and an avid downhill skier, a member of the United States Ski Team, and a 1941 national medalist in grand slalom. Her grace and poise on the ice and the slopes were a reflection of her inner strength and determination.
She also expressed her passion for the arts as a member of the Bell Choir at Christ Episcopal Church and a dancer with the Jubilate Dancers. Her love for ballet led her to serve on the board of the Denver Ballet Guild, where she made a significant impact on the local arts community. Gretchen's dedication to dance extended to her role as a lifelong ballet teacher, where she nurtured the dreams of young dancers, instilling in them the same values that she held dear.
Gretchen Storer Evans was a remarkable woman whose life was a beautiful composition of love, art, and advocacy. Her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched and the arts she cherished. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her memory will forever remain in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Gretchen, and thank you for gracing our lives with your presence. No service is planned at this time. Donations gratefully accepted to:
