Obituary

In the wise words of Maya Angelou, "A great soul serves everyone all the time. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again." Demetra May-Ward, fondly known as Dedee, was indeed one of these great souls. Born on November 13, 1965, in Kansas City, MO, she grew to become a compassionate, funny, generous, and thoughtful individual. Dedee moved and lived in various places before settling in Denver, Colorado, five years ago. She passed away on October 13, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love and strength.

Dedee was a lover of life, finding joy in simple pleasures like arts and crafts, diamond art, phone games, and watching ID shows. Her generous spirit was evident in how she always worked tirelessly to provide the best life she could for her sons, even without much help at times. Dedee had an affinity for the mountains and being outdoors, her love for nature was infectious. This love was only surpassed by her love for her children, who were the most important part of her life. Her thoughtful nature and funny antics were the life of any gathering, making her a favorite among her friends and loved ones.

Dedee is survived by her sons, Denton (Sosha) May, Kelly Holland, Daniel Wonser, and Elijah Wonser; her step-daughter, Carrie Lynn; her siblings, Rebecca (Seth) Wilson and Rhonda May and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas May and Shirley Fisher; her sister, Tonna May and her significant other, Carl Tinnin. Dedee's life was a testament to her strength and resilience, her story a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of love, laughter, and unyielding determination.

As we remember Dedee, let us strive to embody her qualities of compassion, generosity, and thoughtfulness. In the words of Helen Keller, "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose; all that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Dedee will forever live in our hearts and memories. We invite you to share your memories and upload photos of Dedee to the memorial page, as we continue to celebrate her life and the love she shared with us.
